Paris: The Olympia Press, 1961. First edition. Wrps. No. 88 in the Traveller's Companion Series. Dustwrapper reproduces a calligraphic drawing by Brion Gysin. Written at the Beat Hotel and the first in the trilogy of Burroughs' cut-up novels. Allen Ginsberg helped edit the manuscript, which consisted of cut-up material originating from Burroughs' 1000-page 'word hoard' left over from 'The Naked Lunch', and provides an unattributed blurb printed on the dw. flap in which he explains the cut-up method. The book was published in June 1961 and launched with a party at Gaït Frogé's English bookshop (although Burroughs was in Tangier at the time). Price cancel, with 'New Price NF 18' stamped over the original price on the lower wrapper. Near Fine in dw. (slight age-toning to spine panel).
