Beat Hotel.

San Diego, CA: Atticus Press, 1983. First American and first English-language edition. Maroon cloth. 78pp. Limited edition of 100 specially bound copies, numbered and SIGNED by the author. Foreword by William Burroughs. Preface by Carl Weissner (the book was first published with his German translation by Maro Verlag in 1975). Postscript by the author (1982). Illustrated with photographs, including one of Burroughs with the author in a café around the corner from the Beat Hotel.

Norse moved into the hotel at Burroughs' invitation in April 1960 and was strongly influenced by the recently published volume of cut-up texts, 'Minutes To Go'. Norse's novella incorporates the cut-up method and its centrepiece, 'Sniffing Keyholes', was his first cut-up piece, written in room 9 at the hotel. The book's last section, 'Cut-Up Magic', was written in London in 1968 and discusses the origins of the technique and its literary and artistic antecedents in Rimbaud and Dada.
