Hippie Hippie Shake: the Dreams, the Trips, the Trials, the Love-Ins, the Screw-Ups...the Sixties.

London: Bloomsbury Press, 1995. First edition. 376pp. + 24pp. photo-illustrated, including 8pp. in colour. Colour endpapers reproduce 29 early Oz covers; chapter headings illustrated with drawings by Martin Sharp. Dustwrapper design features a collage of Oz front covers.

SIGNED by the author on the title page, with the addition of a peace symbol and drawing of a heart shape, dated by him "20th May 1995", two days after the publication date. Review copy, with publisher's printed sheet loosely inserted. Neville's "gripping psychedelic memoir…a love story as well as an inflammatory social history" (publicity blurb). Errata slip present, making apologetic reference to Germaine Greer's misrepresented gynaecological history (after she was sent the original manuscript by Neville, she replied: "I shall not read it. Ever."). Fine in dw. The first edition was quickly reprinted.

Together with:
i) an original colour poster, issued to promote the book, reproducing four Oz magazine front covers. 59.5x42cm. Fine;
ii) a pre-publication extract from the book (7pp.), published in The Independent Magazine (April 29th, 1995), with front cover photograph of Richard Neville and Martin Sharp by Bob Whitaker. Includes School kids issue contributor Peter Popham's recollections, plus photographs, including a spectacular full-page colour group portrait by Whitaker of the original Australian staff, taken at Sharp's home in Sydney in 1995. The picture shows Andrew Fisher, Jenny Kee, Martin Sharp, Albie Thoms, Richard Neville, Jim Anderson, Louise Ferrier, and Richard Walsh, each brandishing an issue of Oz, surrounded by a dazzling psychedelic array of Sharp's artwork, with more issues of Oz in the foreground, amongst numerous examples from Sharp's collection of sacred figurines, from Mickey Mouse and Mary Magdalen to Donald Duck and Jiminy Cricket. Near Fine.
