Paint on canvas, partially varnished, with 15 (originally 16) small plastic discs affixed. 44.7x34cm.

The painting mixes colour, music and writing in a magical sigilisation, incorporating a stylised rendition of P-Orridge's bass guitar (or possibly violin), magical sigils from the COUM Alphabet (transmuted from Gerald Fitzgerald's 'quaquascript'), and the magical colours of the three key members of COUM: Genesis P-Orridge (orange), Cosey Fanni Tutti (blue), and Spydeee Gasmantell (green).

P-Orridge describes his attitude towards art in his essay, "Notes from a Magical Diary 1967-87": "E do not believe that ANY art has intrinsic value. It is a result, it is not a thing itself. It is expression and description, not experience, it is residue, it is means. Magick is the only medium that can be both. It was through thee process ov art that E located Magick" (Esoterrorist: Selected Essays 1980-1988, p.26). The influence of Austin Osman Spare is clear: Art as Agent, rather than Art as Art.

It's understood that P-Orridge made paintings on canvas at the Ho Ho Funhouse, but most have since been lost or destroyed, making this piece singularly rare.
