AMAZING DOPE TALES Volume 1, No. 1 (San Francisco: Greg Shaw, c. early 1967) + pre-publication flyer.

All published. First printing, second state, with trimmed edges (the first printing was aborted due to production faults, and few are known to exist). B/w, 24pp. Inside back cover reprints an article from The East Village Other on LSD. Fine.

One of the earliest underground comics, preceding Zap by about a year, and almost certainly the first to celebrate the use of hallucinogenic drugs. Written and illustrated by Geoff Evans, a university science student and amateur film maker, and published by Greg Shaw, who had earlier founded Mojo-Navigator Rock'n'Roll News, the West Coast's first rock magazine. The hippie protagonist of the story, Walter Echo, ingests a large dose of acid to avoid a bust and embarks on a mind-bending trip.

Together with: a rare pre-publication handbill announcing Amazing Dope Tales, "Coming Soon... Watch For It". Designed by Geoff Evans and probably printed by the Communication Company in San Francisco. B/w, 28x21.5cm. Fine.
