Original artwork drawn in 1972 for the front cover of Screw: The Sex Review.

Signed by the artist. Black ink on paper. Image size 26.8x25.4cm.; sheet size 43.1x35.2cm. Printer's registration marks (crosshairs) to three corners. 2cm. closed tear to lower edge, margins slightly soiled and evidence of tape removal along edges, but image bright and clean.

The work appeared in three colours on the front cover of Screw #157 (NY: Milky Way Productions, 6th March, 1972). It was the first of six covers drawn for Screw by Kinney, who informs this cataloguer that "I was on the staff of the New York Ace at the time, for which Steve Heller was art director (moonlighting from his A.D. job at Screw). So I pitched a Young Lust-like cover to him for Screw (Screw paid $, the NY Ace did not)."

Kinney was a member of the original Bijou Funnies crew, along with Jay Lynch, Skip Williamson, Gilbert Shelton and R. Crumb, creators of one of the most important underground comic book series. Later, he co-edited Young Lust, a satire of romance comics, with Bill Griffith, and founded the politically-oriented Anarchy Comics in 1978. Provenance: The Felix Dennis Estate.
