TITS & CLITS COMIX #1 (Laguna Beach, CA: Nanny Goat Productions, [July] 1972).

First printing (of two). Ed. Joyce Farmer and Lyn Chevli. Front cover art by Joyce 'Sutton' (Farmer). Near Fine.

The first issue of this all-female underground comic, its title a subversion of the the phrase 'tits and ass' commonly used in men's magazines. It was started as a partnership by Joyce Farmer and Lyn Chevli, both of whom had backgrounds in women's health, with the intention to counter the sexism in the male-dominated underground comix scene and promote self-empowerment and a sex positive attitude. The characters they created told the truth about women's sex lives from a woman's viewpoint, bemoaning the scarcity of satisfactory male lovers and the prevalence of STDs, dealing with PMT and unwanted pregnancies, and extolling the pleasures of uninhibited masturbation.

Farmer and Chevli published three issues on their own before the title was opened up to other contributors, and a further four issues appeared intermittently between 1977 and 1987. This first issue, sometimes mistaken for the second (the printed number on the cover reads as '2'), sold out in eight months and is now regarded as the first self-published underground comic by women (preceding Wimmen's Comix by a few months).
