A collection of photographs originally gathered for an exhibition at the De Young Museum in San Francisco. The show was abruptly postponed shortly before it was due to open (branded as "too controversial"), but the photographers enlisted the help of local art critics and journalists and it eventually opened. Baruch and her husband were supported by Kathleen and Eldridge Cleaver in their project, which began with them taking photographs at a 'Free Huey' rally in Oakland in July 1968.

Texts include a 4pp. "Review of Panther Growth and Harrassment", "Rules of the Black Panther Party", and the "Black Panther Party Platform and Program".

The best contemporary photo-documentary on the Black Panther movement.
