The premiere issue, published in association with Vibrations Magazine (Cambridge, Mass.). Zigzag was started by Pete Frame, who named his magazine after the Captain Beefheart track 'Zigzag Wanderer', as well as the cigarette papers used for rolling joints.

Contents include the cover feature on Fairport Convention; an interview with Christine Perfect; a review of Leonard Cohen's novel, 'Beautiful Losers'; lengthy record reviews, including Led Zeppelin's debut album; and a full-page ad. for Caravan's first LP.
