PIERO HELICZER WILL READ HIS POEMS.

Small flyer announcing a poetry reading by Piero Heliczer at the Gallery Bookshop, Soho, London, December 9 (1961). Printed offset in black on pale orange thin paper stock. 19.6x12.6cm. Illustrated with the same photograph by Ph. Mechanicus that appears in Outburst #2 and on the cover of '& I Dreamt I Shot Arrows In My Amazon Bra'. Old central horizontal fold; short top right corner crease; slight handling wear; o/w Very Good.

A reference to the reading in Piero's notebook records the names of those invited, the number of copies of 'Amazon Bra' sold or given away at the event, and the date of a second reading nine days later at an unnamed venue in which copies were given to Angus MacLise and Cornelius Cardew, among others.

The Gallery Bookshop in Soho had previously shared the premises at 20 D'Arblay Street with Victor Musgrave and Ida Karamian's art gallery (until April 1961, when the latter moved to North Audley Street in Mayfair). A centre of local bohemia, the bookshop was run by Peter Russell and employed Laura Del-Rivo, author of 'The Furnished Room' (1961), whose work appeared in John Rety's Soho-based Intimate Review, Britain's first post-war underground paper.
