PIERO HELICZER & THE DEAD LANGUAGE PRESS: A BIBLIOGRAPHY.

NY: Boo-Hooray, 2014. First edition. Printed envelope with a string closure containing two volumes (each in stapled wrappers), a printed card, and a short DVD.

The first volume prints a bibliography of the Dead Language Press and other publications featuring Piero Heliczer, including pamphlets, broadsides and books; the second volume features colour reproductions of a selection of Dead Language Press publications.

The DVD shows Dave Dugan's report, 'The Making of an Underground Film', originally shown on CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite on December 31, 1965. It begins with Dugan reporting from outside The Bridge Theater in the East Village, where Piero's girlfriend, Irene Nolan, was working at the time (an announcement for a Saturday night residency by 'The Fugs' is just visible on a poster at the entrance).

The broadcast features an appearance by Heliczer shooting 'Venus in Furs' (in the report Dugan refers to it as his earlier film, 'Dirt'), and the earliest known footage of the Velvet Underground, including both Mo Tucker and Angus MacLise (Barbara Rubin is glimpsed filming the TV crew, who are filming Heliczer shooting his film). The report also features Andy Warhol, Edie Sedgwick, Jonas Mekas, Stan Brakhage, and Willard Van Dyke.

Near Fine. Published in an edition of 300 copies, which quickly sold out.
