THE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO.

NY: Verve Records, 1967. Mono LP record (V-5008; side A runout etched V5008 S-1 MG 558 Rev; side B runout etched V5008 S-2 MG 559; Eric Emerson airbrushed from back cover photo).

Gatefold sleeve, with front cover 'Peel Slowly and See' banana skin unpeeled and intact. Andy Warhol had originally thought of putting his 1962 painting 'Nose Job' on the cover, but instead reprised the deadpan innuendo previously featured in his 1964 films, 'Mario Banana', 'Harlot' and 'Couch'.

The inner gatefold prints five b/w photographs of the band and one of Andy Warhol, taken by Billy Name and Nat Finkelstein, accompanied by press quotes from Jonas Mekas, John Wilcock, David Antim (sic), and others. The back cover prints a colour photograph by 'Hugo' of the band on stage at the Chrysler Art Museum, and five colour portraits of the band members by Paul Morrissey, each with the EPI's multimedia projections superimposed.

Sleeve rubbed and lightly soiled; small corner bumps; ring-hole cut-out punch to lower left corner, o/w Very Good. Original Verve inner sleeve (with ring-hole punch and vertical crease). Vinyl shows minor hairlines and light scuffs, but plays very well.

Overall, a Very Good plus copy of the mono issue (the album was originally recorded and mixed in mono, and intended for mono listening).
