POP GOES ART: Andy Warhol & Velvet Underground.
Wuppertal, Germany: Institut für Popkultur, 1990. Printed card box (31x23cm.) containing an assemblage of materials, part of a wider series of projects which also included two exhibitions in tribute to the Velvet Underground. Limited to 2000 copies.
Consists of:
i) a 48pp. book profusely illustrated in b/w and colour with photographs of Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable, publications, posters, and a discography, featuring contributions from Uwe Husslein, Gerda Wendermann, and Carsten Brandt (texts in German);
ii) a portfolio of 18 8x11" b/w photos by Lisa Law of Warhol and the Velvets in performance and colour reproductions of posters;
iii) a large sheet reprinting Jonas Mekas's columns in Film Culture;
iv) an 8pp. booklet on the New York '60s underground, including photos of Carolee Schneemann and The Fugs;
v) a large b/w poster;
vi) a mini-CD of German band Rausch playing VU songs;
vii) two silver decorated balloons;
viii) a concertina-style fold-out of 7 postcards commemorating Lou Reed and John Cale's 1990 trip to Germany.
The balloons have hardened and the box's lid shows some scuffing along the edges, o/w a Near Fine copy of this book-in-a-box.
