BEDROCK ONE. Original handbill designed by Robert Crumb for the Communication Company's benefit for itself known as Bedrock One, held at the California Hall, San Francisco, March 5, 1967.

SF: Communication Company, 1967. Printed on recto in black on orange paper stock. 28x21.5cm. First printing, with mention of The Diggers as participants: a later printing had their name partially erased in an unsuccessful attempt to assuage their objections (one of which was the entrance charge), and a further edition prints a 23-line 'correction' by Com/co on the verso.

Lists music by the Steve Miller Blues Band, Dino Valenti, and The Orkus'tra; lights by The Lysergic Power & Light Company; Happenings by The SF Mime Troupe, Alan (sic) Dienstag & The Pack, and the Diggers; and poetry by Richard Brautigan & the Caped Crusaders.

Other participants included the Radha Krishna Temple, former next door neighbours of the Diggers and their philosophical rivals, who opened the evening with chanting; event sponsors, The Sexual Freedom League; and host, Ramparts editor, Warren Hinckle, who got one of his staff, a then-unknown cartoonist, Robert Crumb, to design a handbill, one of only two he's ever drawn for a rock event.

Faint tape traces to corners and centre top edge; light creasing, esp. to lower edge, with one tiny edge-nick, o/w Very Good plus. One of at least five colour variants.
