ESQUIRE Vol. 70, #5. (NY: November 1968).

Includes "The Coming of the Purple Better One" by William Burroughs. This piece (later collected in "Exterminator!") formed part of an 8pp. article on the 1968 Democratic Party Convention in Chicago, in which Burroughs, along with Jean Genet, Terry Southern and John Sack, were sent as a team by the magazine to report their reactions to the event. Classic front cover by George Lois and Carl Fischer depicts the four writers standing together on a street (in fact, New York, not Chicago), with an image of a man posing as an injured protestor lying at their feet. Also: Robert Christgau on country rock; James Agee; Robert Kennedy's funeral; more. Faint crease to front cover, o/w Very Good.
