Chicago Trial Testimony

SF: City Lights, April 1975. First edition. 4to. Wrps., 74pp.

Contains the complete verbatim text of Allen Ginsberg's memorable testimony in the December 1969 'Chicago 7' trial. Front cover reproduces a colour cartoon drawing of the court scene by Pat Ryan, with a cross-legged Ginsberg depicted floating on a cloud chanting 'Om' and Judge Hoffman saying 'The language of this court is English!'.

During his testimony Ginsberg launched into the mantra 'Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare' in an attempt to demonstrate that the original intention for the 1968 Yippie Festival of Life was to hold a peaceful festival. The judge remarked that he didn't understand it, while Ginsberg pointed out that the language was Sanskrit, adding that (as illustrated on the back cover), 'It adds spirituality to the case, sir'.
