THE COCKETTES IN CLAPLAND.

An original handbill announcing 'Goodbye VD', a concert staged at the Fillmore Auditorium, San Francisco, May 5 (1971) with the intention of helping the VD Clinic and combatting the rise of venereal disease in the city. Printed in orange and brown on white stock. 28x21.8cm. Illustrated with a cartoon strip depicting Captain Clap, "the courageous crusader against villanous clap!".

Pam Tent later recalled how "The show featured Cockettes as gigantic human phalluses chasing each other around the stage, squirting aerosol toothpaste out of the ends of their cardboard dicks… an exercise in vulgarity" that eventually led to Bill Graham's management throwing them out (Graham closed the venue two months later). The show also featured Eric Burdon (then living in San Francisco) with War, and local band Stoneground.

Lightly creased, o/w Very Good plus.
