MANY LOVES.

Original programme for The Living Theatre's production of William Carlos Williams's play, 'Many Loves'. NY: The Living Theatre, (January) 1959. Red and blue dyed decorated wrps., 16pp. Front cover drawing by Jean Cocteau. Prints texts by Alan Hovhaness and Martin Buber, along with cast and production details.

The play was the first to be staged in The Living Theatre's new Playhouse at Sixth Avenue and 14th Street. It was well received and a party held in celebration for it was attended by Allen Ginsberg (who kneeled in homage at Julian Beck's feet), Jack Kerouac (with whom Beck was briefly in the same high school class at Horace Mann, New Haven), Gregory Corso, Paul Goodman (whose anarchist ideas influenced Beck and Malina), and Jackson Mac Low, among others.

'Many Loves' later became part of The Living Theatre's repertory and was one of the plays presented in Europe during their 1961 tour.
