FRANKENSTEIN.
Original programme for The Living Theatre's production of 'Frankenstein' at the Olympia Theatre, Dublin, October 3-5, 1967. Slim wrps., 8pp. Initialled 28-word handwritten ink note (and further annotations in pencil) by Julian Beck to the title page, and numerous holograph alterations in an unknown hand to the cast list.
The Dublin production was The Living Theatre's third version of 'Frankenstein', preceded by the six-hour premiere in Venice in September 1965, and a second, slightly shorter version at the Festival of Cassis in the summer of 1966. In the much shorter Dublin production, Beck played the part of Frankenstein, and the large cast included Steven Ben Israel (as the Creature), Birgit Knabe, Rufus Collins, Jenny Hecht, Mary Mary, Pamela Badyk, and Mel Clay (one of the inked in additions).
Beck's note requests: "Can the typography for this credit be altered so that the public & critics do not have the impression that the production itself was directed by me? JB."
Very Good.
