RADICAL THEATRE REPERTORY PRESENT THE LIVING THEATRE.

Original programme for The Living Theatre's productions of 'Mysteries & Smaller Pieces', 'Frankenstein', 'The Antigone of Sophokles', and 'Paradise Now' at the Bovard Auditorium, University of Southern California, February 24-March 2, 1969. Purple wrappers printed in black, stapled. 8vo. 8pp.

Includes the scenario of 'Frankenstein' and full cast lists for each production. The dates formed part of a US tour produced by Beverly Landau, Mel Howard and Saul Gottlieb under the auspices of the Radical Theatre Repertory, a booking agency for a collective of sixteen other experimental ensembles (a list of them appears inside the programme's back cover, among them The Performance Group, Om Theatre Workshop of Boston, Black Troupe [NY], Bread & Puppet Theatre, and the San Francisco Mime Troupe).

Julian Beck was reportedly warned by a fire marshall that the Bovard Auditorium stage could only take the weight of fifty people during the performances of 'Paradise Now', but they went ahead as planned while cops carried gas masks in the lobby and patrol cars surrounded the theatre (the final two shows were cancelled by USC).

Jim Morrison attended every performance in Los Angeles and later, in San Francisco, where he participated in performances of 'Paradise Now' at the Nourse Auditorium, he gave Julian Beck $2500 to finance the company's return to Europe.
