THE LIVING THEATRE.

NY: Horizon Press, 1972. First US edition. 8vo. Orange cloth. 256pp. + 32pp. photo-insert.

The first contemporaneous history of The Living Theatre, originally published in France in 1968 (it was followed by a revised edition in 1970, of which this edition is a translation). The concluding chapter was specially written for this edition, and a 15pp. appendix details The Living Theatre's tours from June 1961 through to the end of 1969.

A drama critic for Le journal de Genève, Biner joined The Living Theatre during their American tour in 1968 as company archivist and secretary to Julian Beck and became a member in 1969. His account, probably still the best to date, features extensive interviews with Judith Malina and Julian Beck and detailed expositions and analyses of their major productions, notably 'Paradise Now'.

Very Good plus in slightly rubbed and lightly edge-worn dw.
