DIRECTORY OF COMMUNES AND COMMUNE PROJECTS, TRIBES, CRASHPADS, AND RELATED PHENOMENA IN GREAT BRITAIN AND EUROPE.

London: Commune Movement/BIT Information Service, August 1970. Tall 4to. Mimeographed sheets, side-stapled, 48pp. Front cover art by Tim White of the Rochester Commune.

The first 13pp. reprints the Commune Movement's introductory pamphlet, 'A Federal Society Based on the Free Commune' (probably written by Nicholas Albery), followed by a directory of approximately 75 communes throughout the UK and Europe, each entry accompanied by "a paragraph or short article about it" provided by the commune itself. Three supplementary sections list crashpads outside London ("communes are not crashpads"), information on mystical and New Age centres, and details of books on communes.

A loosely inserted double-sided circular from July 1970 and signed in the copy by Albery prints the original invitation to commune members to contribute to the directory, and announces the Gathering of Communes at the Roundhouse in London, an event with which the directory was intended to coincide.

Pencilled annotation to p.19 noting that the Eel Pie Island Commune is now 'Defunct'. 2cm. closed tear to front cover at centre staple, and two nicks to right edge, o/w Very Good. 1500 copies printed.
