Contains an uncredited survey of alternative lifestyle options, featuring sections on shelter, clothing, land, transportation, community control, food, medicine, free schools, women's groups, the underground press, radio, guerrilla theatre, film, draft counselling and self-defence. Reprints an article by Marv Davidov of the Honeywell Project on Minneapolis-based computer corporation Honeywell and its manufacture of cluster bombs "and other hideous weapons" for use in Vietnam.

Canyon, a remote location in the San Francisco Bay Area, became a centre of political and social protest and alternative lifestyles in the late 1960s and was home to three interrelated projects: the Canyon Collective, the Black Bart Brigade (for "middle-aged drop-outs"), and Vocations for Social Change ("a living, breathing creation of the generation of youth, peace and love aimed at social change").
