One of the earliest guides to alternative living, intended "for people who would rather chop wood than work behind a desk so they can pay P.G. & E.", and written while the author was living on the Wheeler Ranch commune near Occidental in Northern California in 1969. Includes sections devoted to nomadic lifestyles, simple shelters, outdoor kitchens, hand sewing, homemade dyes, leatherwork, organic gardening, woodcarving, recipes, herbal medicine, midwifery, making musical instruments, dress patterns and candles, and more.
