BLACK BART BRIGADE: The Outlaw Mag #3 (Canyon, CA: April 1972).

8vo. Stapled wrps., 56pp. Illustrated with cartoons and clip art.

Named after Charles Earl Boles (aka Black Bart), an outlaw who operated in Northern California and Southern Oregon during the 1870s and 1880s, Black Bart Brigade was edited and produced by Irv Thomas and lasted for seven issues between November 1971 and May 1974.

Part of the Canyon Collective (see item #71), Thomas explains on page one that "The use of the term 'Outlaw' in this magazine refers to anyone who has learned how to pursue life outside the confines of the system, and has opened his or her perspective to all the good things and new life it brings". The back cover proclaims that "Black Bart Brigade is dedicated to helping people become OUTLAWS."

Contains various articles expounding Black Bart's disparate philosophy of dropping out, along with 6pp. of bibliographic resources, an "Outlaw Intercom for reaching other people", and a community directory.

Near Fine.
