Brighton, Sussex/Seattle, WA: Unicorn Bookshop, 1972. First editions. Tall 4to. Wrps., unpaginated. Cover art and drawings by Cliff Harper, with additional photo-illustrations, diagrams, drawings and clip art throughout. Printed in different colour inks, each colour indicating an area of information, with text in both machine-composed and handwritten type.

The first two volumes in a series of six books initiated by former architecture student Stefan Szcelkun and published by the Unicorn Bookshop between 1972 and 1974 with the intention to provide "enough information to allow anyone to survive well without government."

The first volume covers everything from clothing and survival equipment "for living off the country" to plans for simple forms of shelter such as tents to the assembly of geodesic domes and kitting out mobile vans, as well as houses built of newspapers, log cabins, tree houses, sheds, and urban survival shelters. The second volume concerns all aspects of food production and nutrition, from wild food foraging, fishing, and animal rearing to finding water and composting. Both volumes include extensive bibliographies, and blank pages are provided between each colour-coded section for the user's own notes.

Wrappers slightly age-toned along spine panels and extremities, o/w tight, Very Good plus copies, with Oz magazine editor Felix Dennis's bookplates inside both.
