THE CROTCH ISLAND QUARTERLY: Photographs, Histories, Essays of Crotch Island Experiences and News of Our Experimental Community.

Stonington, Maine: Spring 1974. Oblong 8vo. Wrps., 84pp. Illustrated throughout with b/w photographs, drawings and diagrams. The first (and only) issue of this "Publication of Alternative Energies Project of Planned Total Environment, Inc.".

The Stonington project on Crotch Island in Maine was an experimental intentional community formed "for the purpose of learning more about the effects of environment on behaviour and to apply this information to actual designing and construction of a variety of research dwellings… we are primarily concerned with the human energy and its many forms and applications, in addition to harnessing renewable non-polluting energy sources, using that energy intelligently, and providing basic research in progressive, sane housing." Three of its members provide written statements: (cover) artist M. Procyon Tarail; bio-feedback researcher Robert Bornn; and geodesic dome builder, Olga Lange.

The publication includes sections devoted to Psychoarchitecture ("what we're mainly into"), Earthworm Technology, Microfarming, a history of Crotch Island, drawings and a poem. A bibliography lists works by Buckminster Fuller, 'Domebook 2', 'Shelter' and several works on environmentalism.

Faint, small stain and slight age-toning to upper wrapper. Overall, Very Good plus.
