"A collection of thirty stories by Lesbians on land", based on interviews gathered by Cheney as part of her project to record rural separatist feminists and lesbian separatists living in intentional community, land trusts and land co-ops. Each chapter is devoted to a particular community, such as Adobeland (Arizona), Wisconsin Womyn's Land Cooperative, Willow (Northern California), and Womanshare (Southern Oregon). Other essays include "Lesbians On Land Without Land" and the "Politics of Land", along with related reading.
