Beginning with psychedelic explorers Timothy Leary, Alan Watts, and others, the author journeys through Richard Aldcroft's Infinity Machines, USCO's psychedelic environments, lightshows at the Cheetah in LA and UFO in London, the hippie crashpads of Haight-Ashbury, "Space Shelters" and "Microenvironments", vinyl inflatables and pneumatic apartments, the back-to-the-land revolution and hippie communes, geodesic domes ("seen by some as an architectural form of yoga"), the Indian tipi, rural self-build enclaves, Paolo Soleri's desert arcology, and much else, ending with Governor Ronald Reagan's attacks on the hippie lifestyle ("Let there be no more Morning Stars"), which marked the beginning of the neo-conservative moral counteroffensive.
