An original b/w photograph by John Hopkins of Alexander Trocchi with Ian Sommerville in Trocchi's flat in St. Stephen's Gardens, Notting Hill, c. late 1964.

17.3x25.4cm. Satin finish. Probably printed in the late 1990s or early 2000s.

A copy of The Moving Times broadsheet poster can be seen affixed to the wall in the background (in another of Hoppy's shots from the same sequence a small pile of folded copies of the poster is visible on his desk).

Early in the previous year both Trocchi and Sommerville featured in Antony Balch's film, 'Towers Open Fire', the former as chairman of the board (it was shot in the boardroom of the British Film Institute).

Trocchi's three-roomed flat had been found for him a few months before the photograph was taken by Michael de Freitas (later Michael X), as had his previous flat in Baring Street, Islington, and their friendship led to de Freitas becoming one of the 'directors' of Project Sigma (Trocchi also introduced William Burroughs and RD Laing to de Freitas during this period).

Fine.
