BLACK MAGIC & ROCK & ROLL. Original postcard with multi-colour psychedelic artwork by Linz announcing 'Mike Quatro and Russ Gibb Present in Detroit Black Magic & Rock & Roll Halloween Night' at the Olympia Stadium, October 31, 1969.
17.1x10.9cm. Verso prints two illustrated ads. in blue ink, one for a local record shop and the other for local underground paper Fifth Estate.
The list of performers billed include Arthur Brown (or) Tim Leary, Frost, The Amboy Dukes, The Bonzo Dog Band, The Stooges, Pink Floyd, Savage Grace, Kim Fowley, Alice Cooper, Satan (himself), Bob Seger, SRS, Früt, and The Pleasure Seekers (featuring Suzi Quatro, younger sister of promoter Mike Quatro).
At least four of the acts were never under contract for the event, however, and were falsely advertised by Mike Quatro - Arthur Brown, Pink Floyd, Kim Fowley, and the MC5 (he was made to partially erase their name from the postcard after they were advertised in a radio commercial for the event).
Several others did not appear, for various reasons, including Bob Seger (cancelled by the promoter), The Bonzo Dog Band (who had already returned to England), Timothy Leary (banned by Olympia), Alice Cooper (conflicting engagement), and Satan (himself), aka Anton LaVey.
A contemporary press report states that The Amboy Dukes and Frost appeared but weren't permitted to play after the power was shut off during the performance of the Savage Grace, and that the police were called to disperse the disgruntled audience (although they at least got to see The Stooges).
Small rubbed patch to lower part, o/w Near Fine.
