You Could Hear The Snow Dripping and Falling Into The Deers Mouth.

Paris: The Dead Language, 1959. First edition. Stapled printed wrps. (24pp.). Printed letterpress. Due to insufficient 'D's in the letterpress, 'COULD' appears as 'COUL' in the cover title (Harold Chapman remembers that both the printing press and the fonts were given to Piero Heliczer by a psychiatrist).

Heliczer's first book, a collection of six poems, with an avant propos by Robert Graves in which he likens Heliczer's work to "a translation of poems from a foreign language, which I would like to understand" ("an indication", Anselm Hollo later noted, "of the limited range of the older poet's ear").

Some copies were issued with a small photograph of the author by Harold Chapman mounted on the verso of the last leaf, not present in this copy. The book's title is credited to Siggy Wessberg, Olivia de Haulleville's half brother.

Slight age-toning to extremities of wrappers, o/w Near Fine.
