Sikkensprijs 1970 voor 'hippies'/1970 Sikkens Prize for 'hippies'.

Sassenheim, Holland: Sikkens Group NV, 1971. First edition. 25x23.5cm. Illustrated linen wrappers bound by two metal clasps, with two folded colour posters designed by Willem Sandberg bound in, each featuring photographs of hippies at the Woodstock and Kralingen festivals and elsewhere by, among others, Ed van der Elsken, Eva Besnyö, Koen Wessing, and Oscar van Alphen.

Eight pages of typewriter-generated texts reproduced in red ink, selected by Simon Vinkenoog, including quotations from Jimi Hendrix, Vachel Lindsay, Ken Kesey, Jorge Luis Borges, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Marshall McLuhan, Charles Olson, Mick Jagger, René Daumal, Meister Eckhardt, John Cage, Timothy Leary, Buckminster Fuller, Jeff Nuttall, and Vinkenoog himself (from IT #14).

The book was designed by Jan Van Toorn for Sikkens in 1970 after the company awarded its prize for groundbreaking work to 'hippies' for their 'exuberant use of colour both in their appearance and activities' (previous winners had been individual artists and architects, including Le Corbusier, Johannes Itten and Theo van Doesburg). The back cover states "this is an ups (underground press syndicate) publication".

Minor wear to fore-edge, o/w a Near Fine copy of this unusual and uncommon publication.
