One of the first studies to present a large survey of cannabis users (more than 500), quoting their experiences of the effects and relating these to factors such as personality and environment.
Berke trained as a psychoanalyst with RD Laing (with whom he helped establish the anti-psychiatry centre at Kingsley Hall), organised the Dialectics of Liberation conference in 1967, and co-founded the Anti-University of London in the following year.
