Confessions of a Hope Fiend.

NY: Bantam, 1973. First edition (p/b original). 296pp.

The author’s account of prison life inside California Men's Colony West, his escape with the assistance of the Weather Underground (who had been hired by the Brotherhood of Eternal Love), and subsequent exile in Algeria with the Black Panthers.

Brian Barritt collaborated with Leary on the book and spent time with him in Algeria (where he introduced him to the life and work of Aleister Crowley), and later in Switzerland. The similarities between himself and Crowley were not lost on Leary, and the title for his book combines Crowley’s “Diary of a Drug Fiend” and partial autobiography “Confessions”.

Spine edges slightly rubbed, o/w a tight, square Very Good plus copy, with faint contemporary UK price stamped to top right corner of upper wrapper.
