An original handbill for the Legalise Pot Rally held in Hyde Park on July 16, 1967 – “Flower power people please bring flowers”.

Plain lettering printed in black on white paper. 25.4x20.3cm. Announces the participation of Allen Ginsberg (“Mantra Chanting”), Steve Abrams (who arranged the event), Shiva’s Children, and poets.

The gathering was one of a series of ‘Be-Ins’ which had regularly been taking place at Primrose Hill and Hampstead Heath, and it was the last event preceding publication of the SOMA ad. in The Times (item #168).

Speakers included Allen Ginsberg, Stokely Carmichael (like Ginsberg, in town for the Dialectics of Liberation Conference at the Roundhouse), Alexis Korner, Caroline Coon, Spike Hawkins, Clive Goodwin, and Adrian Mitchell. The event was attended by several thousand and received a couple of pages of publicity in almost every national newspaper.
