SOMA and Release, who co-sponsored the event, announced in IT #34 that “The 10,000 most beautiful people in Britain will assemble for their annual spiritual picnic and herbal tobacco smoke-in”, beginning at 2pm. Two tiny marks to lower right margin (not affecting the image), o/w Very Good plus, at least.

Together with: a large size b/w photograph by Harold Chapman of another member of the crowd at the same event. Vintage print. 36.5x26.5cm. (borderless). Very Good plus.

The French magazine, L’Express, commissioned Chapman to document the event, though they didn’t use any of his images and published no report of it.
