The book recounts the author’s trip to the Amazon jungle in 1971 with his brother and other intrepid travellers, and the revelations resulting from their ingestion of psilocybin mushrooms and ayahuasaca. McKenna, who died in 2000, was the third and possibly last in the line of psychedelic visionaries and charismatic leaders after Aldous Huxley and Timothy Leary.
