Schofield was a social psychologist, prominent gay rights campaigner, and a signatory to SOMA’s ad. in The Times who sat on the Wootton Committee and, dismayed by its reception (which led to the introduction of the Misuse of Drugs Act), subsequently published this book (the original title for which, as he states in the introduction, was to have been “The Case For and Against Pot”).
