Gainesville, FL: FUF, 1965. Six-panel brochure (measures 23x31.6cm. when unfolded).

The Free University of Florida (known at the time as FUF) was incorporated as a non-profit organisation in June 1965 (by August it had received $1400 in contributions). Inspired by the Free Speech Movement, it was led by Ed Richer, a humanities instructor dismissed from the University of Florida for his activity in the Movement and for working with the Student Freedom Party.

In its initial term, FUF offered 33 courses, as listed in this brochure, including among them classes titled “African Government”, “The Negro Experience of American History”, The Ideas of Psychotherapy”, “Sexuality and Freedom”, and “Youth Culture: Past and Present”. The brochure also outlines the philosophy of the school, and a list of faculty (some with prestigious degrees, some of them longtime activists in the South).

Near Fine.
