FREE UNIVERSITY NEWSLETTER. Untitled (Cleveland, OH: September 9, 1965).

Single foolscap sheet, mimeographed recto and verso.

An early attempt at establishing a newsletter connecting the Free University movement. Prints an introduction by Rena Leib, written following the workshop on Free Universities held in Washington, August 6-9, 1965. In it, she outlines “Two avenues of movement”, the first one set up outside the existing educational structures (eg. the Free University of New York), and the second created through student demands for reform from within (eg. “the Berkeley type actions”). She lists the institutions she has already made contact with, and follows this with an account of the possibilities for “constructive alternatives” at various educational institutions in the Cleveland area. Folded twice for mailing, with recipient’s address label. Very Good.

Together with: NEW UNIVERSITY NEWSLETTER #3 & #4 (Madison, Wisc.: January 8, 1966 and March 8, 1966). Legal-size sheets, mimeographed recto and verso, stapled (3pp. and 2pp. respectively). Ed. Rena Leib. A follow-on from the untitled newsletter above: “This newsletter was formed in order to provide a means of communication and exchange among free universities and university groups attempting to improve their institutions.” Old mailing folds, with recipent’s address labels; offsetting to first page of issue #3; o/w Very Good.
