A key text by Maslow, one of the foremost proponents of person-centred education (an approach he shared with the founder of humanistic psychology, Carl Rogers). Maslow delivered an influential lecture on the subject at Esalen in 1966, and his emphasis on students’ choice and control over the course of their education informed the institute’s development, the Human Potential Movement it pioneered, and the numerous Free University courses on personal growth that followed.
