COMMUNIVERSITY. Summer ‘74 course catalogue (University of Missouri, Kansas City, 1974).

4to. Stapled wrps., 24pp. (incl. cover). Cover art and category headings by Ross Pollette.

UKMC’s free university, known as Communiversity, was founded in 1970 on the ideals of the community, and its volunteer class leaders were called conveners instead of teachers because of the shared experience philosophy of the programme. It was free for UKMC students (the initial fee for non-students was $1.00 per course), and its curriculum consisted mainly of alternative, mystic and consciousness raising topics, such as Kundalini Yoga, Gay Awareness Rap Group, Karmic Astrology, Folk Music for the Hell of It, Re-Evaluation Counseling, and a large number of Women’s School classes (to which 3pp. are dedicated in this catalogue). Unlike most of the free universities from the ‘60s and ‘70s, it outlasted the era and survived until very recently.

Light creasing to wrappers, o/w Very Good plus.
