ANTI-UNIVERSITY OF THE EAST. EASTSCENE No. 1 - Calendar of Heavenly Phenomenae (Kathmandu, Nepal: EastFree Press, May 1975).

Broadsheet folded twice, with single quarto sheet insert. Printed in blue, red, green and black inks on thin newsprint. Illustrated with woodblock designs.

This first (and only?) issue takes its inspiration from Hesse's metaphysical Journey to the East, stating that the “EastFree Press has been established to encourage the distribution to a wide audience of self-expressive productions from the talent of those who have journeyed to the East”.

Includes mentions of a newly-created Anti-University of the East in Kathmandu (on which no more information can be unearthed by this cataloguer), the ‘Project for Conscious Movement’, and the weekly poetry readings held at Bardo Matrix’s Spirit Catcher bookshop. The centrespread prints poems by Ira Cohen, Angus MacLise (“The Next Vedas” [its only appearance in print?]), Rosalind (Schwartz), Roberto Valenza, Kevan Myers, and Israel Halpern.

Paper slightly age-toned, with light creasing to one corner; 3cm. closed edge-tear; o/w Very Good plus.
