The Kodak Mantra Diaries, October 1966 to June 1971.

London: Albion Village Press, October 1971. First edition. Narrow folio. Spiral bound. Unpaginated (82pp.). Photo-illustrated throughout.

Association copy, SIGNED and inscribed by the author on the title page to filmmaker Peter Whitehead: “For Peter with belated thanks for the soundman who made this possible - our first collaboration Iain Sinclair”.

Sinclair’s second publication and first book of prose, a multi-layered retrospective chronicle of his film documenting Allen Ginsberg’s visit to London for the Congress of The Dialectics of Liberation. Titled “Ah, Sunflower”, the film was commissioned by WDR in Köln and premiered in West Germany on June 25, 1968 (later released on DVD in the UK [item #107]).

The book prints transcripts of Sinclair’s series of interviews with Ginsberg, as well as those with Stokely Carmichael, RD Laing, Paul Goodman, Miles, and others, providing an essential accompaniment to the film, which was only able to use short extracts. Replete with a countercultural cast of walk-on characters and much contextual detail, the book stands both as a fascinating snapshot of the period and as a valuable record of the Dialectics of Liberation.

Minor wear to extremities, o/w Near Fine. Printed in an edition of 2000 copies.
