Flyer, nd. (c. December 1970 or early 1971). 25.7x18.7cm. Printed in black on yellow stock. Photo-illustrated.

An original flyer issued in the aftermath of the arrest of six members of the Weather Underground as they were preparing to bomb the First National City Bank at 1275 Madison Avenue, New York City, an act intended as a protest on the first anniversary of the death of the Black Panther leader, Fred Hampton.

The flyer identifies one of the undercover detectives who had been trailing them as “Pig Steve Weiner” who “presently wears a mustache and goatee, is 5’ 4” and has been hanging around Movement groups for years.” One of those arrested was Sharon Krebs, co-founder with her former husband, Allen Krebs, of the Free University of New York, who joined the Weather Underground in 1970 and lived in the Village with Joyce Plecha, another of those arrested (their apartment building at 90 Bedford Street was later used in the TV sitcom Friends). They were sentenced on May 7, 1971 and Plecha received a sentence of three years and Krebs the maximum of four years. The fate of Steve Weiner is unknown.

Old central vertical and horizontal folds; 2.5cm. closed tear to upper edge; small holes to lower right corner; o/w Very Good. Scarce Weather ephemera.
