An early collection of writings by Reich, some concerning broad themes in his music, others explaining specific pieces, including an essay on “Four Organs” and another on an unrealised score, “Slow Motion Sound”. It also includes his 1968 essay, “Music as a Gradual Process”, widely considered one of the most influential pieces of post-war music theory. Also included are short ethnomusicological studies on Ghanaian drumming and Balinese Gamelan, notes on the future of dance and music, and a list of works and their performances.
