Street Art: The Punk Poster in San Francisco 1977-1981.

SF: Last Gasp, 1981. First edition. 4to. Wrps., 128pp.

Well-illustrated documentation on the art of SF punk, edited and designed by Peter Belsito, researched by Bob Davis, written by Marian Kester, and inspired by an exhibition of punk rock posters curated by Belsito, Davis and Susan Pedrick at Valencia Tool & Die mounted during the Western Front Punk Festival held in San Francisco in October 1980.

Kester’s text includes snippets of published interviews, articles on performance art and excerpts from Walter Benjamin’s essay “Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction”, while Brad Lapin’s introductory “15 Theses” places the mass-produced punk poster within the context of Marshall McLuhan, industrial society and youthful rebellion. Includes work by James Stark; Winston Tong; Raymond Pettibon; Dirksen-Miller; Winston Smith; Penelope Houston; Gary Panter; Edwin Heaven; Sally Mutant; Belsito, and many others.

Slight rubbing to spine edges, o/w Near Fine.
