NEW YORK ROCK PARTY.

Original poster announcing “You are invited to the Fantabulous New York Rock Party” at the Manhattan Center, New York, May 30, 1976. Printed in black on cream stock. 57x44.5cm.

Promising “More stars than there are in Heaven!”, the event was organised as a benefit for Wayne County’s defence fund (Dick Manitoba of the Dictators had sued County after he had his collarbone broken at CBGB’s when County, reacting to Manitoba’s homophobic taunts, hit him with a microphone stand). The stellar line-up, listed on the poster, included Blondie, Wayne County and the Back Street Boys, Jackie Curtis, Mink DeVille, the New York Dolls, Richard Hell, Jerry Nolan, Dee Dee Ramone, Suicide, Johnny Thunders, Tuff Darts, Cherry Vanilla, Holly Woodlawn, and Divine and the cast of Women Behind Bars. The poster is illustrated with a graphic of New York’s skyline and a constellation of stars, featuring headshot photographs of many of the performers.

Slight edge-wear, with a few small nicks along left edge; short upper left corner crease; minor toning to extremities of upper and right edges; o/w Very Good plus.
