Howl for Carl Solomon.

SF: Grabhorn-Hoyem, 1971. First edition thus, and the first hardbound edition of “Howl”. Sm. folio. 48pp. Pictorial linen-covered boards featuring a design by Robert LaVigne. Printed by Robert Grabhorn and Andrew Hoyem on handmade paper.

One of 255 copies SIGNED by Ginsberg on the title page (the colophon states that 275 copies were produced, but several copies were misbound; the remaining 20 sets of sheets were bound in a new cover design in 1992 which did not include the LaVigne illustration).

The text comprises “Howl” as it was published in 1956, with “minute revisions” by the author, and the first publication in book form of a related poetic fragment, “The Names”, his “autobiographical chronicle of Howl’s same radiant persons living & dead adored to specify Names & deeds in extended eulogy - an embodyment of Howl’s abstractions”.

A Fine copy of an attractive production.
